Kilauea 1983

In 1983 Kilauea erupted explosively for the first time since 1924 sending rivers of fire to the sea as molten lava shot 1,500 feet into the night sky while demolishing an entire subdivision. The following Kilauea images were captured by photojournalist Phil G. Giriodi during this 1983 cataclysmic eruption. KILAUEA TAKES NO HOSTAGES!
