Violet Scrap | The MC of the Underworld

The Unpublished Scrap Series (or i'd better call it the Scrap Dancing in a Cape Series) is back with this new episode, straight from good times spent in Israel with Elizabeth Zohar and her Midnight Legend productions. This was 2017, and this character is a very felt and nurtured one i've been studying for quite a while. The story with this character starts in 2013, when my buddy Lamia Barbara organized her festival Tribalnatyam in Sicily and that year's show theme was Tarots. She proposed i'd play the Devil card and i entirely felt that role as if it fit like a glove. I did the thing and though it was kinda ok, i was completely unsatisfied with it. So i set forth to study this character in the following years. I made an entire workshop stepping around this, Beauty and the Beast, in which i would use this exact song to embody the Beast exercise (y'all who took that class around the globe might remember). Years go by and Francesca Pedretti invites me to choreograph Inferno in her Divina Commedia Project. At that point i felt ready to give this bad boy another go, so I perform this song to play Hell's pit, where Satan is stuck in the ground. My devil by then turned into a rather twisted figure, something of a mad hatter, a trickster, a joker. The more i improvised along the song the more these characteristics got stronger, until Elizabeth calls me to do her show, where there's a dark-to-light initiation kinda path that the story follows. There i am again, ready to play my little devil. I went there twice, once in 2016 and then the next year. Both times i danced this same song, with one year of “resting“ for the performance in between. My life turned over some bitter ends during that time and finally i had all the internal material to bring on the stage, and it just poured out of me. So much so, that at the end of the show someone from the audience came to me and said that i looked like “The MC of the Underworld“. Then, i knew that i made it.
