Little is known before his appointment to Passau, where in 1705 he was named the cathedral chapel master and he succeeded Georg Muffat as Court Kapellmeister, posts he held the rest of his life. He is believed to have spent his early years in Vienna, where he may have been a pupil of Johannes Ebner, son of the organist Wolfgang Ebner. Apparently, he later came into contact with members of the Viennese nobility, in whose service he must have worked. In 1695 he published his Op.2 in Nuremberg with a dedication to Archduke Joseph, later Emperor Joseph I. With the title 'Concors discordia', it contains six orchestral suites that shows the Italian concerto grosso structure as well as French influence inherited of Georg Muffat. As a composer, his output was mainly sacred and they show a more traditional style similar to the Roman cantata style. He also wrote few theoretical writings which he emphasizes the difference between church, chamber and theatre music.
