Dr. Fauci, the Scientific Method, and the Ten Commandments

Drawing on their experience as evolutionary biologists and science communicators, Bret Weinstein and Heather Heying challenge the notion that either scientific consensus or scientific expertise are synonymous with scientific truth. The scientific method is neither democratic nor authoritarian. It’s an emergent process that, when functioning efficiently and effectively, takes ideas from the fringe and filters them through trials and critical assessment until they self-evidently fail or survive their journey to the mainstream. That, however, does not mean that whatever is mainstream is true. When figures like Dr. Anthony Fauci declare themselves to be literal embodiments of “the science,” you can be sure that the scientific method has nothing to do with it.
