Police statement: Boy dies in hospital after Hainault sword attack

A sword-wielding attacker has left five people in hospital, including two police officers. Police said they were called to the “terrifying incident” near Hainault Tube station in north-east London shortly before 7am amid reports that a man brandishing a large blade was attacking members of the public. A witness described seeing a man “running around with a samurai sword” who “stabbed four people after crashing his van into a house”. A 36-year-old man was arrested. The incident does not appear to be terror-related, police said. Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, said he was “absolutely devastated” by the attack, while Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister, said “such violence has no place on our streets”.
