Bio By She Rox All Female Bands: Melyra are a Rio De Janeiro, Brazil based heavy metal band that begin in 2012, playing mostly covers and earning their place as one of Brazil’s most successful all female bands. The band would release their first material two years after their inception in 2014, an Ep titled “Catch Me If You Can”, with then line-up of Fernanda Schenker and Maria Cals on guitar, along with vocalist Mariana Figueiredo, bassist Nena Accioly, and drummer Ana De Ferreira. The Ep would gain the gain the band a strong following in their country both with fans and critics as many praised the band for being at a forefront of a revival of traditional heavy metal. Touring all over Brazil with such heavy weight bands like Arch Enemy, and Nervosa to name a few, has only helped new fans to discover Melyra for themselves. By 2015 guitarist Maria Cals would leave the band only to resurface later in the all female metal band Indiscipline, Melyra would continue on as a four piece however teetering back and forth for a time with a second guitarist slot which saw a few come and go from the line-up. By 2016 however the band secured a second guitarist with Roberta Tesch and new vocalist Veronica Vox would take over the lead vocal duties in time for the band’s debut release and first full length album in 2018, “Saving you from Reality”. The album itself has gotten numerous positive reviews for the guitar driven, traditional style heavy metal that hard rock and metal fans are in desperate search of amid a countless amount and uninspiring bands that find instant fame via television reality shows and such, real bands like Melrya achieve their success through hard work and determination and give the same high energy whether they play for thirty people or three thousand people. This is just one of many reasons the band’s loyal fan base continues to support Melrya as well as supporting the band by helping fund single releases through various social media outlets. As the band continues to dominate the music scene in Brazil the hope is that their sheer talent will also win fans over abroad which seems to be the next phase that Melyra has set their sights upon.
