Visit Visit our website Shot by an unknown American tourist, these 16mm home movies show trips to Cuba, Bermuda and Florida in the early 1930s. The film begins with footage of Havana shot in the Spring of 1932. At (:22) are shots along the waterfront in Havana, including at (:45) the memorial to the USS Maine. This was built in 1925 on the Malecón boulevard at the end of Línea Calle, in the Vedado neighborhood. At (1:31) a cockfight is shown. At (1:53) a man demonstrates how to ascend a tree to harvest coconuts or fruit. At (2:40) a title card says Bermuda, Spring of 1931. At (2:44) a small ferry type boat, the Woodside, moves passengers from a large ocean liner to shore. The passenger ship is the RMS Aquitania. At (2:54) a four masted sloop, clipper or sailing ship is seen. At (3:12) more views of the RMS Aquitania, as seen from the Woodside. Aquitania was a British ocean liner of the Cunard Line in service from 1914 to 1950. She was designed by Leonard Peskett and built by John Brown & Company in Clydebank, Scotland. At (4:45) views of St. George's from the SS Woodside. At (5:39) the Somers Inn in Kings' Square, St George's. At (7:57) absolutely bustling scene with lots of horse drawn carriages, and the RMS Aquitania in the distance offshore. At (8:56) shots from Aquitania of passing merchant ships including one from the Luckenbach Line, and American Export Lines. At (9:40) shots of Florida in 1930, including a car that's run off the road and into a drainage ditch or the Everglades (9:56). At (11:39) coconuts are harvested. At (11:56) The Breakers, a large resort hotel in Mission style, in Palm Beach. At (14:27) a man drives a Stutz type truck down a dirt road.
