On June 8th, 2023, Yury Popov and his 23 year old son Vladimir headed to the waterfront in next to the Dream Beach Hotel at the Egyptian resort of Hurghada. The pair, originally from Russia, had moved to Egypt several months before. It is reported that Vladimir was born in the sub-Arctic city Archangel in Russia before moving to Moscow. During the war with Ukraine, he moved to Egypt, apparently to avoid conscription into the army.
