Fleetwood Mac - Oh Diane (1982)

Summer 1982 was one of the slowest turnover of Top 40 singles and albums in US music history. The Top 40 hardly changed at all from May to September. When that happens, even really great songs start to sound stale when you are playing for the same nightclub audience night after night. And there were many fabulous songs released for late spring and summer of 1982. But even the best of them eventually became boring ... this bears witness to the fact that popular music only works if it is contiguous and segues from one group of songs to another group in a flowing fashion, week to week and month to month.
