WE HAPPY FEW | Full Game Walkthrough | No Commentary

Today we have something very, very special. We Happy Few is a game I owned for a long time, but never got to play properly due to the mixed results back when it was released. I initially played the alpha and beta versions, but then never got around playing the full release as I wasn't blown away by the earlier versions. Luckily the full version is much better, but it still received quite a lot of mixed reviews back in the day. The game had a long development process and its developers switched visions many times on what type of game it would become. What we got eventually was a open world adventure where you move from district to district while completing quests. There is sneaking, fighting and puzzle solving. In that respect it can be compared a little bit to gameplay styles of Deus Ex, but where We Happy Few truly shines is in its esthetic and storytelling. There litteraly is no other videogame that is like We Happy Few when it comes to its visual style and I adored every minute where I got to gander at the world's splender and originality. The story itself is great too and probably the best part of the game. We play the adventure from three perspectives. Arthur, Sally and Ollie. All three live in a world that holds a dark secret that people are trying to forget. They forget by taking a pill called Joy which makes them only feel happy thoughts. Now that might sound great, but the truth cannot be ignored any longer and all three protagonists hold dark and heavy secrets within their hearts. I thought the storytelling was excellent and I was surprised with how heavy the subject matter sometimes became. Each twist I did not see coming and overall I feel that there are many more stories to be told in this fantastically created world. The contrast between the bright and beautiful utopia created by the intake of Joy is such a stark contrast to the dark and bleak reality. Unfortunately the game also received a lot of critique from many corners and even I had some problems during my play session. Since its an open world there will be a lot of backtracking and though there are fast travel points, they are only there sporadically. The backtracking part often feels boring and there are also moments where the game requires you to craft certain items and if you did not have the luck to stumble across an ingredient you will have to hope to find it at random in order to progress. There are also several glitches and bugs and for every one thing that is great about the game, there is one thing that is not. It actually is a game that is notorious amongst YouTubers for not finishing. Many channels simply stopped in the middle of the campaign. Which is why its all the more important that this game gets the attention that it deserves and been shown to the public in all its splendor. Showing both the good and the bad. And its a shame, because I truly adore this world and setting and would have loved to see this game be absolutely flawless. Its clear that the developers cared about this story and its design, but the end product was maybe a bit more ambitious than they could handle. Maybe focusing on only one character or making the experience a bit more linear would have helped iron out some of the bugs. From what I hear this is what they did with the DLC that they released for this game where its a more streamlined and linear experience which benefits the story and overall presentation. I already checked out the first 10 minutes of the first DLC and that is EXACTLY what I wanted to happen with this game, so I will definitely also be archivnig the DLC for We Happy Few. See you all then! #wehappyfew #gaming #wehappyfewgameplay #compulsiongames #gearbox
