Ottawa truck protesters hold news conference

(16 Feb 2022) A group of former Canadian police officers and a military veteran representing protesters who have blockaded the country's capital city say they will not heed calls to end the protest, despite an emergency order signed by Canada's federal government. “All Canadians should be surprised, no matter your political opinions, that the federal government has resorted to such an extreme and authoritarian measure, like the Emergencies Act, and that the government wants to use force against a peaceful demonstration,“ said Danny Bulford, a former officer for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who at one point worked on a security detail for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The three encouraged more protesters to come to Ottawa, insisting that they have a right to assemble peacefully, and that the group at large is not responsible for violence or other criminal acts.
