German police violently attack Gaza solidarity camp in Berlin

German police forcefully dispersed a pro-Palestine sit-in outside the German parliament yesterday protesting against Israel's ongoing war on Gaza, and detained a number of peaceful demonstrators. This follows the recent shutdown of the Palestine Congress in Berlin on 12 April 2024, when police interrupted the event, disconnected livestreams and ordered attendees to clear out. They also banned two speakers from entering Germany for the event, including Palestinian-British surgeon Dr Ghassan Abut Sitta. Berlin police have maintained a stringent approach toward pro-Palestinian gatherings since 7 October. Protesters and critics have accused authorities of violating their democratic rights of free speech and assembly.
