The Baal Cycle from Ancient Canaanite Mythology

This video is a creative production of the story of how Baal became king of the Canaanite pantheon. This myth was discovered on tablets in the ancient Canaanite city of Ugarit in Syria. The translation for this video was used from “Stories From Ancient Canaan“ by Michael D. Coogan and Mark S. Smith. Ancient people did not always leave behind labeled statues of their gods; therefore, we cannot know exactly how Baal, El, Asherah, etc. were meant to look. However, all figures and artifacts in this production are from Bronze Age and Iron Age Syria and Israel and therefore offer a fairly good representation of how the ancient Canaanites saw their world. This production was created by April Lynn Downey, founder of Phoenix Feather Books & Curios () and Journals of Tales.
