The Cello Concerto in C major belongs to Haydn’s most popular works. Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 Like in all Haydn’s works, there is much to be experienced in the Cello Concerto No. 1. As the music director of Eszterházy Orchestra, Haydn could experiment to his heart’s content. It is striking how much Haydn treats the cello as a fully-fledged instrument, given that the cello was still primarily an accompanying instrument at that time. The solo part of the Cello Concerto in C major is very virtuosic at times, although Haydn does not allow virtuosity to overwhelm his melodic and harmonic invention. Truls Mørk, cello Truls Mørk made his debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 2001. A 1994 tour of the US with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra under Mariss Jansons helped establish Mørk’s reputation. The Norwegian cellist is the recipient of numerous distinctions, has recorded many CDs and won a Grammy for his recording of the complete Bach cello suites. Mørk is a passionate chamber musician and founder of the Stavanger International Chamber Music Festival.
