The New Era Of Heavy Launch |Starship |New Glenn|Vulcan 3 A new era in space exploration could be ushered in by three new commercial heavy launch vehicles. The Vulcan by United Launch Alliance (ULA), the New Glenn by Blue Origin, and the Starship-Super Heavy by SpaceX are the new heavy launchers. The Starship program by SpaceX signifies a significant change in the costs of space travel. Although it was first thought to be an unrealistic animation, Elon Musk's vision is now more likely to come to pass after its recent successful third-flight test. Hey folks! The maiden launch of Vulcan by ULA occurred in January 2024, while the third test launch of Starship-Super Heavy was carried out by SpaceX on March 14, 2024. With the delivery of hardware to the launch pad, the start of cryogenic testing, and the acquisition of a new test stand for the BE-4 engine, Blue Origin's New Glenn orbital rocket project is making significant progress. The company's current goal is to launch New Glenn at least once in 2024. Launch contracts are in place for all three of the new heavy launchers. Two major revolutions in space economics could be made possible by this next generation of heavy commercial launch vehicles: full reuse and increased mass and volume capacity. If Starship or New Glenn were successful, the amount of payload mass and volume that could be launched at a time would be drastically increased. Although Vulcan has 36% greater volume than the Delta IV Heavy, it can launch almost as much mass, which might not be sufficient to bring about a dramatic shift. In contrast, Starship, with a volume more than four times that of the Delta IV Heavy, will launch with more than five times the mass. A breakthrough in launch costs would also result from the effective reuse of the first and second stages. Starship is built for both stages to be reused. A reusable first stage and an expendable second stage are features of New Glenn, while Blue Origin intends to create a reusable second stage. The Vulcan would not be able to be fully reused even if ULA were to create a first-stage engine module that could be removed, retrieved, and used again. If a single totally reusable launcher is successful, it might lead to significant financial savings for spacecraft design, production, and deployment in addition to launch costs. These financial benefits would be substantial enough to allow new space industries that would otherwise be impossible due to launch costs. There are moments when quantity has a distinctive quality. At launch costs no higher than those of modern vehicles, these launchers provide significantly increased payload volume and mass to orbit. Thus, even in the unlikely event that none of them lowered launch costs, they would open up new avenues for the space industry. Spacecraft designers have historically been motivated to launch their vehicles using the smallest launchers available due to the high launch costs of larger rockets. Payload mass and volume restrictions have kept the incentives in place even as launch costs have decreased. In the past, the approach has been to allocate resources toward costlier designs, materials, techniques, and technologies that facilitate the reduction of spacecraft mass and volume. _ Join this channel to get access to the perks: #elonmusk #spacex #starship #newglenn #vulcanrocket #starshiplaunch #spacexlaunch _ Hope you guys enjoy this! 👉 If you enjoy this video, please like it and share it. 👉 Don't forget to subscribe to this channel for more updates.
