Jesus On Extasy ““DAYS GONE BY”
There must be some truth to the proverb “the condemned live longer”, because after more
than a decade the German industrial rockers JESUS ON EXTASY are back from a
prolonged hiatus - with new music and more motivation than ever.
“The long break was necessary to help me realize who I am, what I want and how I want to
continue walking the path as JoE in the future,” singer & founder Dorian Deveraux explains.
And this future shines bright in the darkness: “Our music’s gonna be harder,
uncompromising and most importantly more authentic.”
It was in early 2020 of all years when the two founders Dorian and Chai Deveraux decided to
revive the Band, but - like with so many other musicians - the seemingly never-ending
pandemic threw a couple of wrenches into their machines. Live shows were impossible and
even meeting up in the recording studio wasn’t an option.
A time that took its toll, physically and mentally. “I spent about three months in total isolation,
aside from zoom calls or text messages”, says Dorian. “That’s why many lyrics in the new
material focus on the topic of isolation or depression, and they reflect the downward spiral I
had found myself in pretty well.”
The departure of Chai, Dorian’s musical counterpart, from the band in January 2024 turned
out to be another heavy blow. But giving up was never an option.
With all this in mind, the upcoming single “Days Gone By” appears as some sort of diary and
therapy. The contrast to the band’s early works couldn’t be more drastic: Where the fans
used to find songs about heartbreak, they now find Nihilism and despair, paired with a
glimpse of hope which is wiped away in the next moment like a promise written in water.
The band’s goals are clearly laid out: “Release music, get back on stage as soon as possible
and be the best possible iteration of Jesus On Extasy,” says Deveraux. Big stages or small
clubs? That’s not important. “I just wanna play our music and stay true to my vision of the
band this time.”
“DAYS GONE BY” marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the German
industrial rock band. The song will be released on October 4 via Metropolis Records.
