Nozomi is a Pufferfish

Sometimes it can be hard to pin down exactly what a supporting character is or does. They accomplish a huge litany of functions, and add necessary nuance to the shows and movies we love. Well for Liz—a movie steeped in nuance—their effect is tenfold. For some their purpose is straightforward, as with our two couples of Yuuko/Natsuki and Reina/Kumiko. They directly contrast against Mizore and Nozomi as well as progress the plot towards its ultimate end. Other characters however, are a bit more veiled in subtlety. Ririka is one, whose role and effect may not be noticed straight off the bat. And another is... pufferfish. I think it's a fine supporting character. But does it count at all?
