“Взвивайся, Ленинское знамя“

The song “Взвивайся, Ленинское знамя“ was written in 1962 as a possible substitute for the Soviet Anthem during the process of de-Stalinization. After 1956, the 1944 version of the Soviet Anthem was performed without lyrics and the new Soviet leadership wanted to adopt a new anthem without mentions to Stalin. After several proposed songs were analyzed, the melody of the 1944 version was kept with new lyrics being added to it in 1977. Music by Georgy Sviridov. Lyrics by Aleksandr Tvardovsky
