Damn, that’s interesting!

Feeling a little stressed out lately? Well.. you may want to try to RELAX because stress, or chronic stress, is your brain's worst enemy; impairing memory, learning and decision making. Stress has been shown to lead to significant brain volume loss in the hippocampus and the prefrontal cortex while also strengthening connections in the amygdala. Hyperactivity in the amygdala is believed to increase anxiety like behaviours. In this video I describe how glucocorticoids travel through the blood brain barrier; increasing glutamate levels in the brain which is believed to be “neurotoxic“ and accelerate the brain ageing process. But why do some people thrive while others struggle under the same stressful conditions?
