GAME RECAP: Penguins vs. Rangers () | Rutger McGroarty Makes NHL Debut

The Pittsburgh Penguins started their season at home against the New York Rangers. There were a variety of Penguins milestones upon starting the game: rookie Rutger McGroarty made his NHL debut, Kris Letang entered his 19th season tonight and became one of three defensemen in NHL history to play their entire career with one team spanning at least 19 season, and captain Sidney Crosby, entering his 20th season, joined the Pirates’ Willie Stargell as the only two players in Pittsburgh sports history to have spent two decades with a team in this city. Under two-and-a-half minutes into play, Carrick got the visiting Rangers on the board, and they didn’t look back. Lafrenière and Kreider added to the lead in the opening frame. Chytil added the lone tally of the 2nd period. In the final 20 minutes, Kreider added his second of the game and Pittsburgh local Vincent Trocheck scored the final Rangers goal.
