Plural Nouns in English – Regular & Irregular nouns - Grammar lesson
In this English grammar lesson, you’ll learn the rules for making the plural of nouns.
Most nouns form their plural by ending ‘-s’.
The rules for forming the plural of nouns depends on the spelling and pronunciation:
- if the noun ends in -ch, -s, - sh, - x, or -z, we add -es,
- if the noun ends in ‘consonant + y’, we change ‘y’ to ‘i’ and end with – es,
- if the noun ends in ‘vowel + y’, we end with – s,
- if the noun ends in -f, or -fe, we change -f (or -fe) to -ves,
- if the noun ends in -o, we add – es,
You’ll also learn irregular nouns, only singular & only plural nouns, and collective nouns.
