India tests next-gen torpedo release system

India has tested a new missile-assisted torpedo, according to the country’s defense ministry. In a statement released on Wednesday, the ministry explained that the new tech is intended to boost the Indian Navy’s anti-submarine capabilities ‘far beyond the conventional range of a lightweight torpedo,’ with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh adding that the system will ‘further enhance the strength of the Navy.’ The new missile is able to travel up to 643 km, releasing a torpedo into the water with a 20 km range, armed with a 50 kg warhead.
