Marimba Eroica - PARTCH Ensemble

PARTCH Ensemble Artistic Director John Schneider discusses the Marimba Eroica with T.J. Troy, highlighting two distinct versions of the instrument designed by American Maverick composer Harry Partch, followed by an in-depth discussion of the construction, tuning, and performance issues surrounding PARTCH Ensemble’s own instrument, based off of Partch’s second design. This video is part of PARTCH Ensemble’s Instrument Discussions series, a collection of video works exploring the unique instruments of Harry Partch, and the process through which the Ensemble is recreating the entire collection. Grammy® Award-Winning PARTCH Ensemble has been rebuilding Partch's instruments and performing his wondrous music since 2004. Their recordings on Bridge Records present Partch's music in absolute clarity and precision in performance and recording quality. The group also commissions new works for the instruments from contemporary composers, collaborates with choreographers to create new movement for the music, and seeks to share with audiences worldwide. Please see the complete video catalog for additional installments in the Instrument Discussions series, alongside a growing archive of past performance videos, as well as the Making Music video series, showcasing contemporary composers who have written new works for the Ensemble’s unique instrumentation..
