WORLD | Pro-Palestine college campus protests

After police in New York City cleared pro-Palestinian protestors who had barricaded themselves in an admin building at Columbia University, violent clashes erupted across the country at the University of California-Los Angeles between pro-Palestinian protestors and a counter protest in support of Israel. Overnight, hundreds of NYPD officers, many wearing riot gear, entered Columbia's campus and cleared protests from Hamilton Hall where several dozen protestors were arrested. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators across the breadth of the United States have been demanding universities divest from companies viewed as supporting Israel's almost 7-month war against Hamas in Gaza which has claimed the lives of more than 35 000 people, mostly civilian women and children.
