MOTORHEAD - SACRIFICE - DRUM COVER BY JON DETTE (SLAYER, ANTHRAX, TESTAMENT)

Here we go! Covering the mighty MOTORHEAD. This will be the FIRST song I've covered that's NOT in the BIG 4 line up! Why MOTOHEAD? And WHY SACRIFICE? Well, this song was actually a request from an artist who's an amazing musician and songwriter, someone I have a great amount of respect for, and someone who's also a dear friend. Mr. Michael Poulsen from VOLBEAT. I was chatting with Michael several weeks back. We were talking about the BIG 4 covers I was doing and he simply asked, “Hey dude, what if you did MOTORHEAD - Sacrifice?“ When Michael mentioned Sacrifice, it immediately made me think back to my first tour with ANTHRAX in 2012. ANTHRAX was supporting MOTORHEAD on their winter European tour. That was the first time I met Lemmy, Mikkey Dee, and Phil Campbell and had the privilege to watch the band every night and on occasion, hang out as well. (The night off in London with Phil was one for the story books! I think my liver is still recovering! lol.) I remember watching Mikkey play Sacrifice and it was one of the songs that always stood out for me. So when Michael asked me to cover it, and ultimately play a cover that's not a BIG 4, it made perfect sense. MOTORHEAD has arguably been a major influence to so many bands and artists, including all the BIG 4 bands! Which makes it even more appropriate to cover. I hope you enjoy the cover as much as I enjoyed playing it. One of the biggest challenges I've discovered doing these covers is trying to stay with the other drummers tempo. One of the greatest things I love about all these older songs is that there is no tracking to a click! said, it also means that I have to follow that drummers tempo, which will slightly go up and down at times. I track these songs generally 3 times through and choose the best out of the three. I find that if I start going 5, 6, 7 takes and beyond, the track loses it's feel. With all these songs, I'd rather keep a take that feels like it's going to fall off the track for a second but overall, has a great feel, then a track that's played perfectly but has less or no feel. Until the next it HEAVY!! JD Thanks to David Gnozzi (@mixbustv) for mixing! As always, NO samples with David. Just great mixing! Thank you David!!
